Corn group expresses disappointment over US ITC decision on fertilizer tariffs

HOUSTON (ICIS)—The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) is expressing disappointment over a ruling by the International Trade Commission (ITC) on fertilizer tariffs, which upholds an earlier decision which found material injury to US fertilizer companies.

The decision comes after the US Court of International Trade asked the US Department of Commerce (US DOC) and ITC to reconsider earlier decisions they issued on the matter, which the group noted came during a time of rising nutrient prices that reached record highs.

The ITC opinion upholds an earlier decision by the agency that the trade practices of foreign company caused harm to US fertilizer companies and comes after the US DOC announced it was lowering duties on these products from 19.97% to 7.41%.

The agencies originally acted because of a petition submitted by Florida-based producer Mosaic, which had requested the tariffs over what it called unfair trading practices.
