European Commisision VP calls for AggregateEU extension as third gas tender closes

LONDON (ICIS)–European Commissioner Maros Sefcovic has called for the AggregatEU joint purchasing mechanism to be retained and extended to other commodities claiming success after a third matching round closed on 4 October.

Speaking on 6 October the Commission’s vice-president said companies have snapped up 11.86 billion cubic meters during the latest round, noting there was demand for 16.49bcm and 18.1bcm of natural gas were offered.

“This [the volumes matched in the third round] is similar to the second round – [11.98 bcm], and bigger than the first – [10.9 bcm],” Sefcovic said.

Since the AggregateEU joint purchasing mechanism was launched in May, the total supplier bids of the three tenders held to date amount to more than 50 bcm, while the total demand that was matched exceeds 34bcm, according to Sefcovic.
