Moldova’s Energocom snaps up more gas, rejects anti-competition claims

LONDON (ICIS)–Moldova’s state-owned energy wholesaler Energocom is committed to securing gas transparently and at competitive prices, the company said, rejecting recent concerns expressed by traders over its tendering process.

Energocom bought 280 million cubic meters of gas over the period 4 September to 5 October at a weighted average price of €35.77/MWh, according to a statement posted on 6 October.

The price was in line with spot market values and the volumes were bought as part of 30 tenders. The company accepted offers from seven companies over this period, it said.

The company has benefited from €300m from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for gas purchases and was actively buying volumes in the final months of 2022 as well as throughout 2023.
